What is Sports Massage and how is it different from Swedish massage?
Sports massage involves manipulating soft tissue (skin, muscle, tendons, ligaments and fascia) in such as way which benefits a person engaged in physical activity. Sports massage works to correct problems and imbalances in soft tissue which could have been caused by repetitive movement or strenuous activity and trauma. Sports Massage is different from a Swedish massage as it targets areas of concern instead of covering the whole body. For example, a runner may want a Sports Massage therapist to target a running-related injury on their knee such as a “runner's knee.”
Some benefits of Sports massage are:
Deep Tissue Massage
A Deep Tissue Massage aims to reach the deeper layers of the muscle and connective tissue using deeper and slower strokes and movements to target and provide relief to specific areas of concern. It can assist in Sports Massage therapy to treat musculoskeletal issues such as strains and sports injuries. Deep Tissue helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and which reduces tension in the muscle and tissue.

Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage is a much lighter form of massage compared to Deep Tissue uses gentler strokes and promotes relaxing and calming the body. A Swedish Massage normally covers the whole body instead of targeting specific areas of concern. Techniques such as kneading, tapping and rolling may be used to energise the body and improve overall health.
Pregnancy massage uses Swedish Massage to provide long, sweeping strokes with minimal pressure to provide relief to the changing body during the pregnancy period. My insurance covers this massage from 12 weeks into your pregnancy and can be performed up until you give birth. Post Natal Massage is also offered to help speed up the healing process after pregnancy.

Natural Face Lift Massage
A natural facelift massage involves using slide and lift movements to lift and tone the muscles in the face whilst using pinching, sweeping and smoothing techniques to iron out wrinkles. The results loosen the muscles and give a softer appearance in just a few sessions and also help to achieve more defined cheekbones and jawline.
Available to all ages and genders.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a touch therapy based on the theory that different points on the feet and hands correspond to different areas in the body. I work on areas of concern on the feet or hands to bring about relaxation and provide my clients with one-to-one attention.

Hot Stone Massage is a specialist type of massage using smooth, flat, heated stones made of basalt on the full body to bring about relaxation. It uses Swedish Massage techniques and works to reduce the inflammation and tension in the skeletal muscles, eases muscle spasms and pain.
Dry Needling Therapy
Dry needling is a trigger point therapy where a fine needle is inserted into the skin and muscle to treat muscle tissue, reduce pain, inactivate trigger points and restore muscle function. This treatment is not painful and most do not feel the actual insertion of the needle as they are extremely thin. Sometimes the muscle may twitch during insertion which may feel a little sore if it happens.

Ear Hopi Candles
Ear Hopi candles are hollow tubes made from natural ingredients of organically grown flax, honey, sage, St John’s wort and chamomile. They are inserted into each ear and lit to bring about many benefits. This treatment does not hurt and lasts between 10-20 mins per ear.

I had my first sports massage this morning by Victoria and it was well needed before Brighton marathon in 9 days. I can already feel the benefit and am looking forward to my next massage x

So I just had my second sports massage which was much needed after RHM. This will be even more beneficial than the first as there was more knots to dig out which although means more pain will result in greater relief 🙂 Thanks again Victoria. See you again soon.
